Aliaksandra Sasnovich v Christina McHale Head to Head

Sasnovich and McHale have played once before this, and it was in the first round of the Australian Open in 2018. The Belarusian ran out a comfortable straight-set winner.

Sasnovich Suffered Cincy Heartbreak

Aliaksandra Sasnovich didn’t make any lasting impression in singles at the Western & Southern Open last week since she suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of Heather Watson.

But she teamed up with Anna Blinkova in doubles, and the pair went as far as the semifinals. Along the way, they knocked out the number doubles player Elise Mertens and her partner Hsieh Su-wei.

Sasnovich and Blinkova then had one foot in the final after establishing what appeared to be an unassailable lead against the experienced duo of Zhang Shuai and Sam Stosur in the last four. They led 6-4 5-1 and had several opportunities to serve out for the match.

As remarkable a comeback you could never have seen possible, it happened. Sasnovich and her Russian partner squandered those chances and were made to pay a hefty price. Zhang and Stosur roared back and eventually won the contest in a third-set 10-point tiebreak.

Sasnovich has not advanced past the second round at any hardcourt tournament in 2021 in singles competition.

McHale Subpar In 2021

Christina McHale’s best days may certainly be past her, but she is still a player capable of going toe-to-toe with the best players in the world.

The 29-year-old American has produced the odd result occasionally this season garnering wins over the likes of Sara Errani and Canadian rising star Leylah Fernandez. McHale also stretched Bianca Andreescu to three sets in Eastbourne.

Having exited the world’s top 100, McHale’s ranking has been insufficient to warrant a main draw spot at most WTA tournaments. She has relied heavily on wildcards at home tournaments or playing a burdensome route of qualifying.

She has won one main draw match all season at tour level and has suffered a whopping 15 defeats. Can the former World No. 24 pull the rabbit out of the hat on Monday?

Sasnovich v McHale Prediction and Tip

Sasnovich will start as an odds-on favorite for this match. But home advantage could be a factor despite McHale’s woeful run of results in 2021.
