Jan Lennard-Struff v Gianluca Mager Head to Head
Seasoned German tennis star Jan Lennard-Struff and emerging Italian Gianluca Mager have never played each other before. However, as is the case when two battle-hardened tennis professionals go at each other, expect an absorbing battle as the two meet for the very first time.

Ranked just outside the Top-50 in singles currently, Struff came into the Cincinnati Masters on the back of a first-round defeat to veteran Italian Fabio Fognini at the Canadian Open.
The German took the opening set in a tiebreaker in Toronto, only to see the Italian come roaring back to win the next two and dump him out of the tournament.
Though the match ended in defeat, the German at least had the solace of going down fighting in the Canadian capital.
Arriving at the Masters, Lennard-Struff drew left-handed compatriot Dominik Koepfer in his tournament opener. For someone with a big serve and a range of groundstrokes in his repertoire, the German couldn’t bring home the proverbial gravy against his countrymate as he was overcome in three sets.
Though Lennard-Struff fought back to win the second set after conceding the opener in a tiebreak, Koepfer regathered himself in the decider to eventually pip him to the finish line.
Struff has a good chance of regaining the form that took him to the fourth round at Roland-Garros and putting himself in contention for silverware at Winston-Salem.
However, standing between him and a place in the third round is Gianluca Mager, a fiery Italian who recorded a last-eight finish at one of his recent events.

Mager Comes Through against Tung-lin
Mager arrived at the Cincinnati Masters after reaching the quarter-finals at the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel but still had to clear the qualifiers to reach the main draw.
Drawing seasoned Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in the first qualifying clash, the 70th-ranked Italian went down in straight sets to see his qualification hopes go up in smoke.
However, he will take the confidence from his strong finish in Austria as he bids to go past the big-hitting Lennard-Struff and seal his passage to the third round at Winston-Salem.
Mager’s opening-round win in straight sets at the ongoing event against Wu Tung-lin of Taiwan will also stand him in good stead going into the second-round clash.
With Lennard-Struff not having a run of wins at recent events, Mager would sense an opportunity to take down the 52-ranked German.
Struff v Mager Prediction and Tip
Though the two players aren’t ranked far apart in singles, Lennard-Struff, with his powerful shot-making and big serve, would start as a slight favorite. However, the Italian has the game to put it past the German in their first-ever head-to-head battle.
