After getting a first round bye, Tiafoe went into his second round encounter against the struggling Andy Murray as 3/4 favourite and he lived up to that billing as he romped past his opponent with ease.
In a match that lasted nearly two hours, Tiafoe overcame three set-points in the opening set to carve out a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Murray to seal his third round place.
The opening set went on serve till 3-3 before Tiafoe missed out on three break-points in the seventh game and another one in the ninth. He himself endured a lot of pressure while serving at 4-5 but saved those three set-points to push the encounter into a tie-breaker which he clinched.
Tiafoe only upped the ante in the second set, racing off to a 5-1 lead before getting broken as he served for the match. He got another opportunity to do that and this time around eased through to the victory.
He should not have a lot of difficulties coming up against a player with a career-best ranking of 74.

Monteiro in Rare Successive Win Run
Having come into this tournament on the back of a six-match losing streak, Monteiro looks to have turned things around for his own self. After shocking James Duckworth in the first round here, the Brazilian player made it through to the third round with a win over Eduardo Nava on Tuesday.
Monteiro, who had needed three sets in his opener, eased his way to a 7-5, 6-1 win over Nava in a match which lasted an hour and 28 minutes.
The first set proved to be hard to crack for Monteiro who frittered away a couple of break-points in the seventh game but then got another two of them in the 11th, converting the second of them.
And once he had served out for the set, Monteiro broke his opponent three times in a row to make it through to the second.
He will now look to make it three in three, taking confidence from what he had done at the Great Ocean Road Ocean Open in early February where he had made the semifinals.
Tiafoe v Monteiro Prediction and Tip
While Tiafoe is an obvious favourite, we believe Monteiro’s rhythm and momentum could help his push this contest. Tiafoe should still win but not before Monteiro has won a few games of his own.
