Daria Kasatkina v Magda Linette Head to Head

They are 1-1 from their previous two meetings. Linette beat Kasatkina in the second round of the Australian Open in 2018, while the Russian got her revenge this year in the quarterfinal of the San Jose Open.

Kasatkina Bounces Back to Beat McNally

Outplayed in the first set by local hope Caty McNally, the top seed forged her way back into the contest for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in the second round on Wednesday.

The win improved Kasatkina to 33-15 this season, in which she has already landed two titles (the Phillip Island Trophy and St. Petersburg title) and finished runner-up in Birmingham and San Jose.

The World No. 27 had cruised into the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan in the opening round on Monday. The Russian had 18 break points in the first round match but she could convert just seven of them.

Against McNally, Kasatkina had a far better conversion rate of break points, converting 6 of 11. Her opponent, who was dominant in the first set, had 12 break points, but the Russian saved seven of those.

A former world No. 10, Kasatkina will be appearing in a sixth quarterfinal this year. She has won four of the past five last eight matches this season, with Eastbourne remaining the only disappointment where she failed to reach the semifinal after going down to Jelena Ostapenko.

Linette Ends Gutsy 16-year-old’s Challenge

A match against World No. 376 Linda Fruhvirtova may have seemed an easy one for the World No. 51, but it turned out to be anything but easy.

Linette eventually won in straight sets, but she had to fight back in both the sets while trailing the determined 16-year-old.

Fruhvirtova began a series of three breaks at 1-1 in the first set but couldn’t serve out the set at 5-4 with the Pole wiping out the advantage. The set eventually needed a tiebreak which was dominated by Linette.

The Pole began the second by breaking the Czech player in the first game, but the 16-year-old won the next four to seize control. Linette , however, responded with two breaks a couple of games later and sealed the contest 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

The 29-year-old, who was a semifinalist in Strasbourg and a quarterfinalist in San Jose, will be featuring in a third quarterfinal of the season on Thursday.

Kasatkina v Linette Prediction and Tip
