Maria Sakkari v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the World No. 18 Sakkari and World No. 56 Kostyuk.

The French Open semifinalist heads for her seventh straight U.S. Open with a solid 26-14 season record. An aggressive all court player, Sakkari is at a career-high ranking of No. 18, thanks to four semifinal appearances this year, which also includes her first at a major.
Known for her powerful serves and groundstrokes, the 26-year-old Greek reached the semifinals in Abu Dhabi, the Grampians Trophy and Miami before producing her best result at a major.
Her best at Flushing Meadows came in 2020, when she reached the fourth round of the tournament for the first time, but was knocked out by Serena Williams despite putting up a gutsy performance.
Over the last three tournament, Sakkari faced tough three-set losses in the third rounds in Tokyo and Montreal, but was outplayed by Angelique Kerber in the first round in Cincinnati.
Having developed into an all-surface player over the last five years, Sakkari will be a difficult player to beat, at least in the initial stages, but she faces a tricky opponent up front.

Kostyuk Impressed in Chicago
The 19-year-old impressed on her U.S. Open debut last year, reaching the third round by defeating Daria Kasatkina and Anastasija Sevastova before falling to eventual champion Naomi Osaka despite a valiant effort that saw her take a set of the four-time major champion.
Kostyuk, who reached the third round of the Australian Open as a 15-year-old in 2018, comes into the tournament with a 15-11 main draw record this season. A semifinalist in Abu Dhabi and Istanbul, the Ukrainian also made a Round of 16 debut at the French Open.
She was a quarterfinalist in Chicago this week, breezing past her first two opponents, but was stopped from reaching the semis by Varvara Gracheva.
Sakkari v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip
This will be one of the most intriguing first-round battles. Kostyuk is ranked lower than Sakkari but she is a type of player that one wouldn’t want to face in the first round. Expect a tight three-set contest with Sakkari drawing on her experience to advance for a second round matchup with either Sevastova or Katerina Siniakova.
