Roberto Bautista Agut v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

Bautista Agut and Nick Kyrgios are tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head heading into this match. Kyrgios won their first meeting at the Japan Open in 2015, but it was the Spaniard who won routinely at the 2020 ATP Cup.

Bautista Agut Exits World’s Top 20

Roberto Bautista Agut has been an evergreen presence inside the top world’s 20 for many years. The Spanish baseliner has achieved a year-end top-20 ranking in each of the last five seasons, but that streak is in jeopardy.

Bautista Agut recently fell outside the world’s top 20 after enduring a difficult summer in which he suffered five defeats in seven matches. A rare chink of sunlight came at Wimbledon where he made the second week. Aside from that, he has endured a tough summer.

At 33, he was expected to be Spain’s flagbearer at the Olympic Games in the absence of Rafael Nadal. But instead, he elected to play tour-level tennis during the post-Wimbledon clay-court swing in Europe. Unfortunately for him, his desperate search for momentum did not come to fruition.

Bautista Agut was beaten at the first hurdle in both Gstaad and Kitzbuhel. However, his quarterfinal showing at the Toronto Masters sparked him into life.

Can the Spaniard find his A-game against the mercurial talent of Nick Kyrgios?

Kyrgios On 3-match Losing Streak

Nick Kyrgios has only played six tournaments in 2021. Before Wimbledon, he did not set foot out of Australia due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the complicated bubble-life on tour. Kyrgios was also nursing an injury shortly after the Australian Open.

But with relaxed restrictions, the Australian has left his nest and has competed at three hard-court tournaments in preparation for the 2021 US Open. But his form has been lackluster, and injuries continue to hinder his progress at key moments.

His Washington title defense came to a surprise halt after losing in the first round to Mackenzie McDonald. Kyrgios was then unable to overcome the towering Reilly Opelka in Toronto, losing narrowly in three sets.

Last week, he pulled out from the ATP 250 event at Winston-Salem just moments before he was slated to play Andy Murray as a result of a knee injury leading to a chorus of boos from the crowd.

Bautista Agut v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

This match should be determined by Kyrgios’ physical and emotional states. We have seen a fair share of his battling qualities in Grand Slam matches this season (albeit few), against top-tier opposition such as Thiem, Humbert, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. If the Aussie’s mind and body are into it, then it looks like the best time to be playing Bautista Agut, who in fairness, looks very vulnerable.
