Simona Halep v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
In their only previous match that came at the 2015 Miami Open, Halep had defeated Giorgi in straight sets to make it to the fourth round.

She had gone into Australian Open as one of the favourites and while she didn’t quite manage to win it, Halep did make it as far as the quarterfinals and looked good for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately for the Romanian, her fitness hasn’t supported her too well and her game has fallen off the grid. So has her ranking.
At Miami Open where she next played after Melbourne, she managed a win before having to withdraw before her third round encounter, and finished 4-3 on win-loss during the clay season. More vitally, she had to retire mid-match at Rome against Angelique Kerber and miss French Open and Wimbledon as a result.
Halep returned to action at Montreal where she lost her opener to Danielle Collins and then at Cincinnati, injury struck again when she had to withdraw from her second round match against Jessica Pegula because of a right adductor issue.
Can she shrug all of this off in what could be a tricky opening round match?

Giorgi Starts off as Montreal Winner
For a player who has only once made it to the last eight stage of a Grand Slam tournament, and just once won three matches at a WTA 1000 competition, Giorgi’s performance at Montreal left many shocked. Including her own self in all probabilities.
Giorgi had been building up some sort of form, having earlier made it to the semifinal at Eastbourne despite starting off as a qualifier and then won three successive rounds in straight sets at the Tokyo Olympics.
Even then, when she went into Rogers Cup, there was nothing to suggest she would end up with wins over Elise Mertens, Petra Kvitova, Cori Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Karolina Pliskova to lift the trophy!
And while she followed it up with an opening exit at Cincinnati, it was to be expected given the sheer relief and exhaustion from just two days prior.
Giorgi will be well-rested coming into this one and will hope she can take the Montreal form forward.
Halep v Giorgi Prediction and Tip
Rather interesting to note that Halep is starting out as a very minor favourite here at 8/11 to win this. Those are good odds for a Halep win despite knowing how things have been in recent times for both.
