Alexander Bublik v Yannick Hanfmann Head to Head
Bublik and Hanfmann have played each other just once till date. Their only head-to-head meeting came in the third round of the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel last year, with the German coming away with a comfortable, straight-set win.

Coming into the Winston-Salem Open on the back of two straight third-round finishes at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters, Bublik had an eye on his maiden Tour title or at least somewhere close to it.
With the event his last chance to go for silverware ahead of the all-important US Open, the 37th-ranked tennis star from Kazakhstan was, no doubt, keen to perform well and signal his intent for a strong Grand Slam run.
However, his quest for his maiden title and plans to put himself in amongst the title contenders at the year’s last Grand Slam came a cropper as he was beaten in straight sets by rising Finnish star Emil Ruusuvuori.
The Finn got off to a blazing star in the opening-round encounter and was duly rewarded as he opened up a commanding lead in the first set and built on the same to win it by a comfortable margin.
Though Bublik fought back well to take the second set to a tiebreak, Ruusuvuori pipped him to the finish line. The final score-line read 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the Finn’s favor.
While his preparation and build-up to the year’s last Grand Slam has been far from ideal, Bublik would be hoping to get his US Open off to a winning start against German Yannick Hanfmann.
However, with the German winning their only previous head-to-head meeting, his task will be cut out on match day.

Hanfmann Went Down to Coria in Swedish Open Semifinals
Though he has been around in the circuit for a while now, Hanfmann, ranked 134th in singles currently, hasn’t quite lived up to his promise.
However, his last event, the Swedish Open, went well for the 29-year-old German as he reached the semifinal on the back of an impressive run of wins, including against heavyweight opponents in Czech star Jiri Vesely and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
Though he didn’t feature in the US hard-court leg thereafter, the German would take the belief and confidence from his run at the Swedish Open as bids to launch his US Open campaign with a win.
While he hasn’t been in the swing of things on the hard court, Hanfmann will fancy an encore against Bublik in the opening round.
Bublik v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip
Though ranked much higher in singles, Bublik lost tamely to Hanfmann in their only previous head-to-head encounter. However, with more matches under his belt and hard court exposure in the recent weeks, the Kazakh star will start as favorite in this first-round clash.
