Osaka Overcomes Slow Start to Ease to a Win

Having not had the best form in recent times, Osaka wasn’t the quickest off the blocks in her opening round encounter against Marie Bouzkova but in the end she carved out an easy victory.

The third seed needed an hour and 35 minutes to clinch a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bouzkova and seal her second round berth.

Osaka faced a whopping eight break-points in the entire match but to her credit she saved them all. The bigger issue in the first set was her inability to find a way through Bouzkova’s serve, a problem she solved with the Czech player serving at 4-5 to stay in the set.

Off her second break-point in that game, Osaka clinched the set and then romped to back to back breaks in the second to go 5-0 up. Bouzkova managed to hold once before Osaka rounded off a routine victory.

Can Osaka continue with the kind of form she had showed in the second set?

Qualifier Danilovic Sends Out American Wildcard

Danilovic, ranked 145th in the world, had been a part of US Open just once before this and had stumbled in the qualifiers of that edition in 2018.

Here, she defeated Paula Ormaechea, Sasha Vichery and Caroline Dolehide to cruise into the main draw where she was blessed with an easy opening round match. Alycia Parks, a wild-card entrant, has never been ranked better than 240th in the world, and Danilovic used her greater experience to claim the win.

She dished out a 6-3, 7-5 result to move into the round two in a match lasting nearly an hour and a half. Four breaks of serves for Danilovic helped and while she was herself broken once from the seven chances she offered, Danilovic came through easily in the end.

Against Osaka though, the former world number 96 might not have too many answers.

Osaka v Danilovic Prediction and Tip

Osaka came into her own in the second set of her opening round match and she can be expected to continue with that kind of form in the second round. Easy win for the Japanese number one.
