Qualifier van de Zandschulp Registers Comeback Win
The match was gone for all practical purposes for van de Zandschulp as he fell a couple of sets behind to Carlos Taberner in his opener. How he came back from the dead to march into the second round of a Grand Slam for the third time this year should give him immense confidence coming up against Ruud.
Down a couple of sets, van de Zandschulp did well to hold on serve like dear life in the third set before getting a shock break as his opponent served to stay in the third set.
In the fourth, however, van de Zandschulp had to come back from a break down as Taberner served for the match at 5-4, winning three games in a row to level the match.
And van de Zandschulp then was down a break twice in the decider before levelling things off at 3-3, and earning a decisive break to make it a 2-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win in three hours and 37 minutes.
