Dan Evans v Marcos Giron Head to Head

Evans has struggled for form in recent weeks after he makes his way back after catching Covid, but his US Open campaign is up and running after he beat Thiago Monteiro of Brazil, the world 93, in the first round in four sets.
The British number one had to save several break points in the first set, but it was he who forced the first break, closing out the set next game.
He then moved ahead with another break in the second set, only for Monteiro to bounce back with a break of his own, With nothing able to separate them it went to a tie-break, which the Brazilian subsequently won.
The third set largely went with serve until, serving to stay in it, Monteiro was broken again. That seemed to sap the resistance of the Brazilian as he only won one more game, Evans easing to victory in the end.

Giron Beats French Qualifier
Giron is now into the second round of his home Grand Slam for a successive year, after beating the French qualifier, Antoine Hoang.
It was a match that he largely controlled until the third set when he made heavy weather of getting over the finish line.
The American started well, breaking Hoang is in his opening service game and controlling the rest of the set from there.
Another break was enough to give him the second set, and he then raced into a 5 -1 lead in the third and held three match points. Not only did Hoang save them all but he broke the Giron serve as well, and them won the next four games on the bounce to level the set.
But Giron regrouped, broke once more and this time, was able to serve out for the match.

Evans won their only previous encounter earlier this year, and will start as the favourite to repeat his victory.
