Roberto Bautista Agut v Felix Auger- Aliassime Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between both players, with the head-to-head tied at 1-1. While Agut prevailed in the 2019 Davis Cup, the younger Canadian did so in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 last year in Cologne.

Agut Confident With Two Impressive Wins

Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut  arrived at the US Open on the back of a mixed run of results – a quarter-final finish at the Canadian Open followed up by an opening-round loss to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov at the Cincinnati Masters.

Ranked just outside the Top-20 in singles currently, the Spaniard opened his US Open campaign against maverick Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios. Although Kyrgios had his moments, it was a convincing win for Agut whose disciplined approach to the game came in the way of the Aussie’s spectacular moments and trick shots.

In the second round, Agut was up against Finland’s rising star Emil Ruusuvuori who was a semi-finalist last week at the Winston Salem Open and has been earmarked as another promising star with a bright future.

But, it was a clinical showing by Agut who dropped only six games for a straight sets win and made the round of 32 looking confident and in good touch and hoping to regain some of the results  that saw him knocking on the doors of a regular top ten in the ATP rankings a couple seasons ago.

Auger- Aliassime Tested In Opening Rounds

After a confident run on the  grass, it has been a mixed bag for Auger-Aliassime in the US Open series, with early losses in Washington DC and Toronto followed by a fair run in Cincinnati including a win over Matteo Berrettini.

However, it has not been the most impressive opening two rounds here for the Canadian thus far.

Playing much lower ranked Evgeny Donskoy in the opener, the Next Gen star won in four sets, with three tie-breaks and was pushed on the ropes a few times. A second round encounter with Zapata Miralles saw another tussle of an opening set that Auger-Aliassime sneaked through and then settled down for a more routine straight sets win.

Auger-Aliassime will be well aware that as the challenges get more stiff here on, the level of play from him will need to move up a gear as well.

Agut v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

This makes for a tight contest and one that should be a good one for the fans early on in the tournament. Contrasting playing styles, the more gritty and dependable Agut and the young flashy Auger- Aliassime. It depends on who is better on the day and especially on the bigger points.

Agut will be confident after his two previous rounds and can be expected to hold it together better out of the two. Predicting a tight contest with Agut prevailing in a hard fought four setter.
