Matteo Berrettini v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, and the Italian won both matches. He won their quarter-final in a Challenger event in Slovenia in 2017 on an outdoor hard court, and more recently, triumphed in the round of 16 encounter at this year’s Wimbledon.

Two years ago, Berrettini became the first Italian man to reach the semi-finals of the US Open since 1977, before eventually losing to Rafael Nadal.
And this year he reached his maiden Grand Slam final, losing to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, having previously won Queen’s on grass a few weeks before.
Now he Is hoping for another deep run in New York, having begun with a straight sets win over Jeremy Chardy of France in the first round.
That earned him a second round tie with another French opponent, Corentin Moutet, the world number 88, who proved to be more of a challenge.
The first set needed a tie-break to decide it after the two men exchanged service breaks in the middle of it. Two dropped serves by Moutet gave the advantage to Berrettini.
Again, the pair exchanged breaks in the middle of the second set,, but with the Italian serving to stay in the set, he came under pressure from Moutet, and it eventually told when the Frenchman converted his fourth break point.
But, having got himself level, Moutet immediately squandered his advantage by allowing himself to be broken in the opening game of the third set. The Italian took it with no undue alarms.
Moutet’s hopes became fainter after he was broken again in the opening game of the fourth set. He ha break back opportunities, could not take them, and then dropped his serve once more when serving to stay in the contest.

Ivashka Hoping to Add on to Winston-Salem Win
Ivashka had only appeared once in the main draw in New York before this year, losing in the first round in 2019.
But the man from Belarus came into the event this time full of confidence, having just won his first senior ATP event in Winston-Salem last Sunday, a result that has helped propel him to a career high world ranking.
And he has carried that form into the event so far in Flushing Meadows, beginning with a straight sets defeat of local man, Tennys Sandgren, the world 91, on Wednesday, just before the storm hit New York.
In the second round, he met the Canadian Vasek Pospisil, and again he was able to deal with the challenge of the world number 58 competently.
The first set saw three successive service breaks in the middle of it, after which sequence Ivashka had his nose in front. One more break sealed the set for him.
He then broke again early in the second set and, although Pospisil was able to recover it, the Canadian dropped his serve once more when he was serving to stay in the match.
The third set went with serve though, and with neither man earning a break point,, it went to a tie-break.
Pospisil saved two match points, but not the third.

Ivashka is in the form of his life and full of confidence. and will not make it easy for the Italian, But Berrettini has now proved he is able to cope with the demands of Grand Slams and will want to go into the further stages of this tournament once more.
