Basilashvili Makes Metz Quarters
Few players in the world can match Nikoloz Basilashvili shot for shot. When the Georgian’s game is firing on all cylinders, he is a joy to watch. But there are two sides to the Basilashvili coin, he is prone to throw in the towel occasionally.
Ranked 36 in the world, which is precisely 20 spots down from his career-high ranking of World No. 16, Basilashvili will make his third trip to the US this season to compete at the low-key ATP 250 event in San Diego.
In his previous four tournaments this season in North America (which includes the Miami Open, Toronto Masters, Cincinnati, and the US Open) he has posted a 4-2 record. He achieved a respectable third-round showing in New York courtesy of a retirement by Sebastian Korda, and a completed win over the big-serving Maxime Cressy.
Although he fell short in his bid towards knocking out Reilly Opelka, Basilashvili is aiming to end the season on a high note after reaching the quarterfinals of the Moselle Open last weekend.
