Cornet Looks To End Season On High

Alize Cornet has put together a 19-21 record for the season, but there is still plenty of room to turn her fortunes around as her campaign edges towards its climax.

Cornet’s improvement began in earnest during the grass-court season after a subpar start to the year. She recorded multiple wins over Bianca Andreescu on the lawns, and also scored a fine win over Garbine Muguruza in Berlin.

Over half of Cornet’s 19 wins have come in the last three months. That included a run to the finals of the Chicago Women’s Open where she finished runner-up to Elina Svitolina. Although she had the misfortune of drawing Ons Jabeur in the first round of the US Open and lost, she did not lose her sharpness on her return to Europe.

The wily Frenchwoman registered a respectable quarterfinal showing in Luxembourg, beating the likes of Mandy Minella and Anastasia Potapova before falling to defending champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Yastremska’s Season Yet To Take Off

After being cleared for doping by the Court of Arbitration for the sport, Dayana Yastremska has not had plenty to smile about on a tennis court.

Aside from reaching the semifinals in her first tournament back in Hamburg, Yastremska has mastered one win in seven matches, clearly showing the level of competition has gone up a notch since she last featured towards the end of last season.

Last week, the Ukrainian retired in Portoroz whilst trailing the eventual champion Jasmine Paolini 7-6 4-1 in the first round due to a back injury. We are not quite sure about the state of her physical condition coming to Chicago.

Yastremska’s reputation has also been under the microscope from fans and players alike, taking some questionable medical timeouts in order to wrest back momentum, and throwing in the towel altogether when the match is out of reach.

Cornet v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Results haven’t quite gone Yastremska’s way, losing a handful of close matches this season. She is certainly getting closer to the form that propelled her to a career-high ranking of No. 21. We expect this to be a fiercely contested match under the Chicago heat.
