Adrian Mannarino v Gianluca Mager Head to Head

Mannarino and Mager have never been involved in a career, head-to-head meeting before. Though not in the top bracket of men’s tennis, both are seasoned hands who are likely to produce a sumptuously absorbing contest in their first-ever head-to-head fixture.

Mannarino Coming off US Open Second Round Loss

After the disappointment of conceding his first-round tie at this year’s Wimbledon Championships to Roger Federer, Mannarino had hoped to avoid a similar fallout at the US Open.

To that end, luck was on his side at the Flushing Meadows but performance-wise, he couldn’t make much waves in the tournament. Though he opened his campaign with a hard-fought win over fellow Frenchman Pierre Hughes Herbert, Mannarino went down fighting in his next against current World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas to crash out of the tournament.

In his first event since the US Open, Mannarino would dearly hope to get off to a winning start against experienced Italian Gianluca Mager at the Sofia Open on Monday.

Though they never been paired opposite each other on a tennis court, both are veterans on the men’s Tour and would have seen enough of each other at events they both featured in.

And that’s all they can fall back on when it comes to plotting game plans against each other ahead of the opening-round clash in the Bulgarian capital.

Being an experienced campaigner that he is, the Frenchman would know not to relax against the Italian on match day.

Mager Fell in Moselle Open Opener

Coming into the US Open on the back of a second-round finish at the Winston-Salem Open, Mager had hopes of making it, at least, to the second week of the tournament.

Instead, he crashed out in the first round itself after losing to Australian Jordan Thompson. Though the match went to five sets and there were moments in the contest when he would have fancied winning it, he ran out of steam short of the finish line.

Taking the hurt from a failed US Open campaign into his next event, the Moselle Open, the Italian drew hard-hitting Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round.

However, things did not go to script yet again for Mager as he went down in straight sets to make an early exit from the event.

While he would hope to snap his run of first-round exits at the Sofia Open, he faces a tough  opponent in Mannarino in his tournament opener.

Apart from the fact he has never played him before, the Italian would know that he would have to be at his best to be on the right end of the result.

Mannarino v Mager Prediction and Tip

Though there is no head-to-head history between them, Mannarino would go into this first-round clash against Mager as a slight favorite owing to his superior ranking. However, the match will be contested on similar skills and both will fancy scalping each other.

Tip: Mannarino to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
