Elena Rybakina v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

The two players have met just once, with the meeting taking place as recently as the US Open 2021. Rybakina won that match in straight sets.

Sasnovich, Benefits from Keys’ Retirement

27-year-old Aliaksandra Sasnovich hasn’t had a particularly impressive year in 2021. Currently ranked World No. 106, her best performances entail reaching as far as the third round in WTA events.

Wimbledon was undoubtedly her best tournament where she reached the said round after moving past Serena Williams in the opener (the American retired at 3-3). On the back of 130 ranking points she earned there, the Belarusian moved to the 86th spot in the rankings. However, owing to a lack of similar results in subsequent events, Sasnovich dropped out of the top 100 again.

She arrived in Chicago following an uneventful campaign in Luxembourg where she lost in round two to Elise Mertens.

Now back in America, Sasnovich faced Madison Keys in the opener and took a 6-4, 2-0 lead before the American retired from the match due to injury. Now the question remains if she can take advantage of this opportunity and make something out of it.

Rybakina, Enjoying Life in Top 20

Elena Rybakina continues to reach new heights on the WTA Tour, recently doing so by reaching her career-best singles ranking as World No. 16.

Seeded fifth in Chicago, she is starting her journey with a bye into round two and will hope to do better than her performance in the preceding tournaments. Most recently, the 22-year-old Kazakh participated in the Ostrava Open where she lost to Iga Swiatek in the quarters; before this, she featured in the US Open where Simona Halep stopped her rise in round three in a three-set epic.

Nonetheless, there have been moments in Rybakina’s 2021 season that makes her a prospective quarterfinalist at the very least. A fourth-place finish in Tokyo Olympics, a semifinalist in WTA Eastbourne, and a fourth-round run in Wimbledon – the seven-time WTA finalist is a promising player capable of pulling big punches.

Rybakina v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Expect Rybakina to win this one comfortably in straight sets, given her experience and superior form on the tour this season.
