Andreescu In Action for First Time Since the U.S. Open

Bianca Andreescu will be taking the court for the first time since her first-ever defeat at the U.S. Open, which ended her run of 10 consecutive wins at Flushing Meadows.

Andreescu, who won the U.S. Open title on debut in 2019, won the first three rounds in the tournament this year before going down to Maria Sakkari in a three-hour-and-30-minute slugfest.

The Canadian, who struggled with injury over the last one year, had made an impressive start to the season, reaching the final of the Miami Open and the semifinal of the Phillip Island Trophy, but couldn’t keep the momentum going in the clay and grass seasons.

Back on hard courts, she registered just one win in Montreal and Cincinnati combined and comes to Chicago with a 4-3 record from the last three tournaments. A three-time tour-level champion, the 20th-ranked Andreescu is 16-10 overall this year. Having slipped out of the top 10 last month, she will be aiming to climb back the rankings, starting with some solid performances in Chicago.

Rogers Breezes Past Cabrera

World No. 43 Shelby Rogers began her Chicago challenge in style as she eliminated Australian qualifier Lizette Cabrera in straight sets on Monday.

The American needed just 70 minutes to beat the Aussie 6-2, 6-1 in what was a solid performance. Rogers dropped just 10 points on her serve in the entire match, winning 91% points on her first delivery and dropping just one service game. She was lethal on return as well, winning 62% points on Cabrera’s serve and converting five of 11 break points.

The win improved Rogers to 24-20 this season from all competitions, including qualifiers.

A quarterfinalist at the U.S. Open last year, Rogers reached the Round of 16 at the Australian and the U.S. Opens this year. Ash Barty ended her run in Melbourne, but Rogers got her revenge over the No. 1  in New York, beating the Aussie in three in the third round. Rogers was however outplayed by eventual champion Emma Raducanu in the next round.

Andreescu v Rogers Prediction and Tip

It’s a tricky opening match for Andreescu. The Canadian is expected to win but it should be a real close affair, which may need a third set to separate the two.
