Emma Raducanu v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Raducanu, Looking to Continue her US Open Heroics

18-year-old Emma Raducanu started the season only in June when she made her WTA Tour debut in Nottingham (she fell to Harriet Dart in the opener). She was World No. 366 back then.

A few weeks later, she storms into the fourth round at Wimbledon, withdrawing in the second set against Ajla Tomljanovic. That performance propelled her into the top 200.

Fast forward to October, when the British tennis prodigy is starting with a bye into round two as the number 17 seed. Her current ranking is World No. 22 – a feat she achieved after winning the US Open as a qualifier, upsetting Belinda Bencic, Maria Sakkari, and Leylah Fernandez along the way. She became the first British woman in 44 years and the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

In the preceding tournament of WTA 125 Chicago, she was the runner-up, losing to Clara Tauson in the final.

This effectively means Raducanu is 14-1 in her last two competitions and may very well improve those figures by the end of her stint at the Indian Wells Open. Remarkably, she has achieved all of this without winning a WTA tour-level match – all her main draw wins have come in Grand Slams/low-tier events.

Sasnovich Overcomes Osorio Serrano

World No. 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich started her campaign in the Indian Wells Open with a 6-0, 6-4 win over María Camila Osorio Serrano in an hour and 35 minutes.

The 27-year-old Belarusian hasn’t had an entirely promising spell in 2021, barring a few instances. In Saint-Malo, Belgrade, and Cleveland, she was one of the last eight while in Wimbledon, she posted her best Grand Slam showing of the season by making it to round three.

Sasnovich’s last tournament was the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic where she fell to Elena Rybakina in round two. As for her best results at Indian Wells, it came in 2018 when she reached the third round.

Raducanu v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Raducanu may have just won a major but she still lacks experience – something that Sasnovich has despite her lack of pedigree. That said, play for play, Raducanu has the upper hand owing to her impeccable first serve and aggressive style. She also has confidence and momentum on her side – the question is can she continue to build on it further.

For now, expect Raducanu to reach round three.
