Petra Kvitova v Arantxa Rus Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Kvitova, Coming Off a Decent Run

World No. 11 Petra Kvitova’s recent form has been fairly good although, there is certainly room for improvement. She has reached the penultimate rounds in many tournaments but her inability to go the distance may very well be frustrating for her fans.

Her last tournament was at home in Ostrava, where she reached the semis before succumbing to Anett Kontaveit. The Czech had a similar run in the Western & Southern Open where she reached the final eight – ultimately losing to Angelique Kerber. It was a similar story in the Bad Homburg Open and Madrid Open as well.

As a former World No. 2, Kvitova has an impressive pedigree that stretches across two Grand Slams and 36 WTA career finals across three decades.

That said, the Indian Wells trophy still eludes her and the closest she came to winning it was in 2013 and 2016 when she reached the quarterfinals. In her last stint here, Kvitova was beaten in round two itself.

This time around, the number 7 seed finds herself in a tricky bracket with the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Emma Raducanu, and Simona Halep.

Rus Eliminates Parks

30-year-old Dutch Arantxa Rus started her Indian Wells Open campaign with a clinical, 6-0, 6-1 over the American qualifier Alycia Parks. That win puts her win-loss tally at 35-20, making her a force to be reckoned with.

So far this season, she has won three ITF singles titles and one runner-up trophy, in addition to reaching the final at the WTA 125 Bol and Belgrade. Her most recent tournament was ITF Valencia where she beat Mihaela Buzarnescu in the final to win the cup.

However, Rus hasn’t done well to translate these runs into similar success on the WTA Tour. Case in point, between May and September, the World No. 68 featured in five tour-level events – and ended up losing in the first round in all of them. It has been the case at the start of the season as well, having lost in the opening rounds in WTA Melbourne, Australian Open, WTA Monterrey, and Miami Open.

Kvitova v Rus Prediction and Tip

It’s a tricky match for Kvitova, seeing that she has seen her fair share of losses this season to players ranked well below her.

She will start as the favourite but it may not be an easy win for her. Rus has momentum on her side and with her recent win and that clinical start in the valley, she will fancy her chances of carving the upset.
