Coco Gauff v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

Gauff and Garcia have never played each other before. However, while the young American features in the top bracket of contemporary, women’s stars, Garcia is also in the mix as a seasoned and accomplished hand in the circuit. So reputation alone should guarantee an explosive clash as the two go head to head for the first time.

Gauff Coming off Early US Open Exit

After the high of the Canadian Open where she finished in the quarter-finals, Gauff suffered a noticeable dip in her levels as she bowed out in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters and followed it up with another round-2 exit at the US Open after losing to compatriot Sloane Stephens.

Though she started her campaign at the year’s last Grand Slam on a winning note, taking down Poland’s Magda Linette in three sets, the teen sensation couldn’t produce her best tennis against fellow countrywoman Sloane Stephens, going down in the round-2 clash in straight sets.

Laying the marker down fairly early in the piece, Stephens bossed the run of play in the opening set and won it 6-4. She stepped up a gear in the second to race to a clear lead and eventually cruised home in 6-4, 6-2.

In her first tournament since the US Open, Gauff would hope to snap out of her indifferent run of results as she opens her campaign at the Indian Wells Masters on Saturday.

However, she faces a tough tournament opener against seasoned Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia. While the American will hog the home support and fancy taking down an opponent who has also been running up modest returns over the recent weeks, Garcia is an experienced campaigner who won’t be bogged down by a partisan crowd.

The Frenchwoman has taken down top stars in the past and has the game to spring an upset on the American.

Garcia Fights Back to Beat Flipkens

Following up on her second-round exit at the US Open with the ignominy of back-to-back opening-round losses at the Ostrava Open and the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, Garcia arrived at the Indian Wells Masters hoping to reverse her run of results and possibly get on a winning run.

To that end, the 27-year-old Frenchwoman did take some positive strides as she opened her campaign with an impressive, come-from-behind victory over Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium.

After dropping the opening set, Garcia lifted her game by a fair few notches to cruise the next two sets, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.

However, she faces the daunting prospect of going past current World 19 Coco Gauff in her next on Saturday. However, what will give the Frenchwoman a hint of an advantage going into the clash is the momentum that she gained from her opening-round win.

Gauff, on the other hand, is coming off a disappointing second-round exit at the US Open and will be low on confidence and self-belief which are obvious chinks for Garcia to exploit.

Gauff v Garcia Prediction and Tip

While her superior ranking will put Gauff marginally ahead in the contest, her performances in recent events have been way below her best. Garcia, on the other hand, snapped her run of unflattering results in the opening round, and the momentum gained will put her in good head space going into Saturday’s tie.
