Matteo Berrettini v Alejandro Tabilo Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 25-year old Italian, and the Chilean, who is a year younger.

Wimbledon Finalist Berrettini

Berrettini was given a first round bye in Indian Wells, although it is an event in which he does not have a good record, never having been beyond the second round in California.

However, in recent years, the Italian has developed into a fine all-court player as proven by his Grand Slam record in 2021 – apart from reaching the Wimbledon title, he reached the quarter-finals in both Paris and New York, and got to the fourth round of the Australian Open. Only Novak Djokovic stopped him going further in all three of those latter events.

He was also runner-up at the Madrid Masters, and won the Serbia Open and Queen’s Club this year.

His only singles’ match since losing to Djokovic in Flushing Meadows was in the Laver Cup, where, playing for Team Europe, he beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets.

Tabilo Achieves a Personal Milestone

Tabilo who came through the qualifying competition in Indian Wells, achieved a personal milestone on Friday by winning his first match in the main draw of an ATP Masters 1000 event.

And he did it in some style by beating the American Denis Kudla, the world number 95, in straight sets.

Tabilo had to save a break point in his opening service game, but then immediately broke Kudla and then a second break allowed him to clinch the first set for the loss of just one game.

And when he broke the American early in the second set, the omens appeared bright for an early victory. Kudla though is an experienced pro, and he fought back to level, before putting the Chilean under more pressure, forcing him to save five more break points.

Tabilo though held his nerve and his serve, and it went to a tie-break where the American’s form deserted him completely. He did not win a single point as Tabilo set up his first meeting with a top ten player.

Berrettini v Tabilo Prediction and Tip

Whilst Tabilo has nothing to lose going into this match, the odds are very much against him upsetting a  man who has become a consistent performer in big tournaments this year, and who will have hopes of a deep run in California without his nemesis Djokovic taking part.

Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
