Basilashvili into the Third Round for the First Time

Basilashvili has a poor record in Masters’ series events and the fact that he was given a  bye in the first round here, enabled him to emulate his previous best in this tournament.

Now he is into the third round for the first time, after a comfortable victory over the American qualifier Christopher Eubanks, the world number 194.

The American was under constant pressure on his own serve in the first set, and had already saved two break points before he was finally broken. Basilashvili had several opportunities to break him again, and, although he could not take them, was able to close out the set comfortably.

When Eubanks was broken early in the second set things looked bleak for the American. To his credit he broke back immediately, but parity was short-lived. Eubanks was broken again and then once more, as Basilashvili set up his meeting with Ramos-Vinolas.

Ramos-Vinolas Knocks Out Seventh Seed

Although  better known as a clay court player, Ramos-Vinolas has now made it to the third round in Indian Wells for the sixth time, although he has yet to go further.

His latest campaign in the California desert began with an easy victory over the Italain teenager Lorenzo Musetti, who was making his debut at this event, dropping just four games to the world number 62.

The Spaniard was very much the underdog going into his second round contest with the number seven seed, Felix Augur-Aliassime of Canada, but produced one of the surprises o the tournament so far by beating the 21-year old in straight sets.

It was the Spaniard who drew first blood in the first set with an early break and, although the Canadian hit back to level, he was immediately broken again. Ramos-Vinolas was able to consolidate from there.

The Spaniard then seized control of the match by breaking Augur-Aliassime in successive games midway through the second set. From there, he was able to serve to serve out for victory.

Basilashvili v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Basilashvili has a poor record in Masters’ series events, but the surface, in theory, should suit his game better than that of Ramos-Vinolas who is better known as a clay court player.

The Spaniard has never been beyond this stage of the tournament before, and the tip is for that run to continue.
