Viktorija Golubic v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

Golubic holds a 2-0 lead over Kalinskaya, last defeating her in the 2021 Monterrey Open.

Golubic Carves Sakkari Upset

World No. 46 Viktorija Golubic is on a roll. Her win-loss tally for the year is 47-19, including the two wins here in the Indian Wells Open.

The Swiss started off with a three-set win over the left-handed Czech prodigy Marketa Vondrousova. In the next round, she defeated the French Open and US Open semifinalist Maria Sakkari 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Interestingly, Golubic’s recent results on the tour were not half as this impressive. She arrived in the valley after losing the first-round bout in four of her last five WTA events – all of them coming in the North American swing. The 28-year-old had a much better time at the start of the season when she reached two WTA finals, two ITF finals, and won the WTA 125K event in Saint-Malo.

Golubic also took home the silver in the Tokyo Olympics with Belinda Bencic to cap what has been a super year for her. And if these results aren’t impressive enough, the fact that she started the year as World No. 138 to get where she is now is certainly commendable.

Kalinskaya, Only Qualifier Remaining in the Field

22-year-old Anna Kalinskaya has delivered the best run of her season in the BNP Paribas Open. Starting as a qualifier, she has successfully dispatched the likes of Claire Liu and Sara Sorribes Tormo in three sets to reach the third round.

Currently ranked World No. 151, most of her current season has gone by in unsuccessful attempts to move past the early rounds. Another way to put this would be her record for the year, which was at 20-20 at the start of the Indian Wells Open competition.

Kalinskaya also tried her luck on the ITF circuit but did not have much joy there. Her best run before the stint in California came in the Monterrey Open and Miami Open, where she reached the third round.

Golubic v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

There is no doubt that Golubic will start as the overwhelming favourite here. She has the momentum and form on her side to easily move past Kalinskaya and reach the fourth round.
