Alejandro Davidovich Fokina loves the clay, and it is no surprise that he has excelled playing on the dirt in his pro career.
The Spaniard has won more matches than on any other surface he has played in. He reached his second ATP semifinal on clay in Estoril earlier this year, beating Pablo Andujar and Ugo Humbert before losing to Albert Ramos Vinolas.
Davidovich Fokina peaked at a career-high ranking of World No. 32 just a few months ago. But considering that a huge chunk of his points were earned during last season’s US Open and the subsequent hard court tournaments, he has been unable to defend them this year.
The 22-year-old has since lost a few spots on the table, and currently sits at No. 44 as he seeks an improved record on hard courts on his tournament debut in Antwerp.

Thompson Looks To Bounce Back From Poor Run
Jordan Thompson is in danger of nullifying the good work he has done during the second half of the 2021 season if his recent poor run of form continues.
For now, the Australian World No. 72 has shown little signs of turning his fortunes around. After reaching the semifinals in Newport and back-to-back quarterfinals in Los Cabos and Atlanta respectively, he has recorded a meager two wins in six matches.
And perhaps what is even more striking was his defeat in the qualifying rounds of San Diego. Thompson lost to a virtually unknown World No. 808, August Holmgren, in straight sets.
Thompson’s most recent bout was in California where he lost in the first round to Kevin Anderson. Having started the year on the cusp of re-entering the Top 50 (at no. 51), he is staring perilously close to going outside the Top 70 before the end of the season.
