Jelena Ostapenko v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

The head-to-head is 2-1 in Ostapenko’s favor. But they haven’t played each since the 2019 Fed Cup where the German veteran recorded her only win over the Latvian.

Jelena Ostapenko was in top form at the recently-concluded BNP Paribas Open. She produced one of the major upsets at the tournament when she defeated Poland’s No. 2 seed, Iga Swiatek, in straight sets.

The Latvian went on to reach the semifinal, losing in heartbreaking fashion to Victoria Azarenka. Ostapenko let slip a set and a break lead in that match denying her the opportunity to compete in Sunday’s showpiece. That, however, should not dampen her mood with the action coming thick and fast.

Just a few weeks remain before the end of the regular tennis season and the main objective will be to finish inside the world’s top 30, giving her a seeding spot at next year’s Australian Open.

The 24-year-old was drawn to face a seeded player at two Grand Slam tournaments this year due to her low ranking, and lost in the first round each time.

On Tuesday, the woman from Riga will play in the Kremlin Cup main draw for the second time (her fourth visit overall), and will look to post her first win on Russian soil.

Petkovic Returns To Moscow

For the first time in 11 years, Andrea Petkovic will make her long-awaited return to Russia’s capital to play the 25th edition of WTA Kremlin Cup.

Petkovic, who reached the Round of 16 in 2010, has enjoyed a career resurgence in 2021. She won her first WTA title since 2015 at Cluj-Napoca and has ascended to inside the world’s Top 100. Currently ranked 79, she is 15-15 for the season.

Petkovic, a former World No. 9, has played four tournaments since that terrific week in Romania, with all those tournaments coming on North American soil.

She won two matches, one at the US Open and the other in Chicago –  losing in the second round each time. Outside that she failed to scale the qualifying rounds in Cincinnati, and her most recent outing resulted in a first-round exit at Indian Wells.

Ostapenko v Petkovic Prediction and Tip

This might be a more difficult test for Ostapenko than what the odds suggest. With just a few days of rest after a long fortnight in California, Petkovic could very well make things a little bit ticklish for the Latvian.
