Anett Kontaveit v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head

Between the two players, it is Alison Van Uytvanck who leads the Estonian with 2-1, last defeating her in the 2018 Wimbledon in straight sets.

Kontaveit, On a Roll

Anett Kontaveit started her Transylvania Open campaign with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Aleksandra Krunic. The match lasted for just 72 minutes and saw the number two seed win 76 percent of her first service points and convert three out of four breakpoints.

The 25-year-old has been in the form of her life this season. She is currently the World No. 14 – her highest ranking yet – and boasts a win-loss tally of 40-15.

Kontaveit has won three singles titles between August and now – the Cleveland Open, Ostrava Open, and most recently, the Kremlin Cup. She was also a quarterfinalist in the Indian Wells Open while in her last tournament in Moscow, she moved past the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Marketa Vondrousova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to win the trophy.

These consistent performances have also put her in the spitting distance of securing a place in the year-end WTA Finals. Here in Cluj-Napoca, she is among the favourites to go the distance for obvious reasons.

Uytvanck, Battling Inconsistencies

Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium started her journey in the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Danka Kovinic. With that win, she also avenged her loss to the Montenegrin in the same stage in Tenerife last week.

The 27-year-old will be pleased with that performance, seeing that she had lost in the first round in three of her last four competitions on the WTA Tour.

Such has been the year for the current World No. 61 – a bunch of early-round exits barring a few instances. In Astana Open a couple of weeks back, she won her fifth singles title (her first one since September 2019) after upsetting Yulia Putintseva in the final. Uytvanck also won an ITF title in Nottingham and reached the quarterfinal in the WTA 250 edition in the same city.

Kontaveit v Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

On one hand, you have a player who is in prime form, sailing high on confidence and momentum. On the other, there is Uytvanck who hasn’t really done exceptionally great on the tour this season as she battles form woes and inconsistencies.

Kontaveit is the obvious favourite here to reach the quarterfinal.
