Simona Halep v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Halep has won on each occasion. Two of those meetings came in 2017, in Miami and Rome, whilst their last encounter was at the 2020 Australian Open.

Kontaveit One Step Closer to Mexico

Kontaveit is now just one step away from securing the win, and the points, she needs to secure the last remaining spot in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, in the process edging out Ons Jabeur.

She had not dropped a set all week and maintained that record over Rebecca Peterson of Sweden thew world number 90, in their semi-final on Saturday.

The Estonia  made a lightening start, winning the first five games before Peterson was able to stop the rot, helped by a break of serve, although it was not enough to pull back the deficit.

She then broke Peterson in the opening game of the second set, followed that up with another break, and controlled the rest of the match from there.

Halep Looking for Home Win

Halep knows that she cannot qualify for Mexico herself now, so she is aiming to end what has been an injury hit season with a home win, even if Covid restrictions means there are no fans in the stands to see it.

She was facing the Ukrainian teenager, Marta Kostyuk, the woman who had ended the hopes of the US Open champion, Emma Radecanu, in the quarter-finals and utterly dominated the world number 55, in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Halep cruised through the first t without dropping a game and only facing one break point on her serve.

Kostyuk did have the satisfaction in holding serve in the opening game of the second set, but was one way traffic after that. The Romanian reeled off the next six in a row to romp into the final.

Kontaveit v Halep Prediction and Tip

Both players are highly incentivised to win this match for different reasons, but, even without the crowds, Halep is playing in home conditions and that should be an advantage for the Romanian.
