Pedro Martinez v Emil Ruusuvouri Head to Head

The pair have played each other before, in the second round of the Australian Open this year, Martinez winning in four sets.

Kitzbuhel Finalist Martinez

Martinez is close to his highest ever career ranking, after a season in which he reached his maiden ATP final, losing the Kitzbuhel Open to Casper Ruud in July.

And he also won a Challenger event on home soil in Marbella in September.

Both of those tournaments were played on clay, his preferred surface, but his ability as an all court player is developing, as proved by the fact that he reached both the third round in Melbourne and Wimbledon.

His best recent result came in Moscow, where he got to the third round, before losing to the eventual finalist Marin Cilic heavily.

He was beaten by Tommy Paul in the first round in St. Petersburg subsequently and failed to qualify for the Paris Masters.

Ruusuvouri’s Year of Consolidation

Ruusuvouri was originally going to be given a wildcard for this event, but was bumped up as an automatic entrant in the main draw following the withdrawal of several other players.

It has been a year of consolidation for the Finn, who has become an established player in the bottom half of the top 100, although he has yet to challenge for a senior title.

His best result of the year was arguably back in April, when he beat Alexander Zverev en route to the fourth round of the Miami Masters, and he was later to reach the semi-finals in Atlanta, and the last eight in Winston Salem.

Late season performances have not been so strong though, since reaching the third round in Nur Sultan. He got to the second round in Indian Wells, and after qualifying for St. Petersburg, suffered a first round defeat.

He did not take part in the Paris Masters last week.

Martinez v Ruusuvouri Prediction and Tip

This is as close as Ruusuvouri gets to playing in a home event on the ATP tour, so he will have enthusiastic support from the crowd, but Martinez won their one previous encounter earlier this year, and is tipped to repeat that feat.
