Vavassouri Won Sardinia Open Doubles

Although not widely known on the senior circuit, Vavassouri did win the doubles on home soil at the Sardinia Open in April with partner Lorenzo Sonego.

Most of the time though he spends on the junior tours where he has appeared in four Futures finals, although he has yet to win one.

He has enjoyed much better success in doubles events though, and has been in five doubles finals on the Challenger tour winning three of them, most recently in Naples last month,

This is a rare appearance for him in the main draw of a singles tournament on the ATP circuit, and he got there by beating tow players from the Balkans, Nikola Milojevic of Serbia, and Nino Serdarusic of Croatia, both in three sets.

Kotov, Another Unfamiliar Name

Kotov is an equally unfamiliar name , except for those who follow events on the Challenger circuit closely, where he won the doubles title in Cherbourg last year.

The Russian has won three Futures singles titles, the last of which was four years ago, whilst his one Challenger final in Segovia, in Spain, ended in defeat two years ago.

Hover, he pulled of something of a surprise in the qualifying competition by beating tow higher ranked players, first coming from a set down to defeat Cem Ilkel of Turkey, the world 158 in a third set tie-break on Saturday.

And he followed that up with an even more impressive display on Sunday, beating the world number 112, Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, in straight sets.

Vavassouri v Kotov Prediction and Tip

There is little form to judge either man on for this contest, but Kotov will start the favourite by virtue of his higher world ranking.
