Garbine Muguruza v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

They are 2-2 from their previous four meetings, but Kontaveit won the most recent encounter in Moscow this year.

Muguruza Gunning for Semis Spot

While Kontaveit has already qualified for semifinal from Group Teotihuacan, the other three are still in contention, and with Garbine Muguruza playing in the last match she would know exactly what she needs to do to qualify from the group.

World No. 5 Muguruza began the competition with a tough three-set loss to Karolina Pliskova, going down to the Czech player 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). However, she got her first win of the tournament in the next match, overcoming a one-set deficit to defeat Barbora Krejcikova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

How can Muguruza qualify? The Spaniard has many scenarios in her favour and so she is the best placed out of the three in contention for the second spot in the group.

If she beats Kontaveit in straight sets, then the result of the other match won’t matter at all and Muguruza will qualify.

In case the Spaniard wins in three, then the result of the other match will come into play, with Pliskova qualifying with a straight sets win. However any other result in the Pliskova-Krejcikova will make no difference if Muguruza win in three.

Muguruza can also qualify if she loses in three and Krejcikova beats Pliskova.

So the Dubai and Chicago Fall Classic champion has a great chance of finding a place in the semifinals.

In-form Kontaveit on a 12-Match Winning Streak

Anett Kontaveit came into the tournament on the back of 10 consecutive wins, winning the Kremlin Cup and Transylvania Open titles. And she has continued looking unbeatable in the year-ending tournament, winning both her group matches without much trouble.

The eighth seed Kontaveit beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-4 in the first match and then demolished Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 6-0 in the second match to seal a spot in the semifinals.

She should finish top of the group, however, a win for Krejcikova in the first match followed by a win for Muguruza in the second will push Kontaveit to second spot in the group with Muguruza winning the group.

Muguruza v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

A winner of four titles this year, the World No. 8 Kontaveit looks unstoppable at the moment and she should keep the form going in the match against Muguruza, but the Spaniard will give her all to qualify. A tough one to call, but expect Muguruza to win in three and end Kontaveit’s streak.
