Stefanos Tsitsipas v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

Tsitsipas has a 6-2 lead over the Polish player, but it was Hurkacz who won their last contest, winning the quarterfinal in Miami in 2021, on his way to the title.

They have been involved in six three-setters, with Tsitsipas winning the deciding set four times and Hurkacz winning on two occasions.

Can Tsitsipas Inspire Greece to Reach Knockouts?

Tsitsipas will once again lead the Greek charge at the ATP Cup. He is 3-2 from his previous two appearances, winning one and losing two in 2020, but winning both his singles matches in 2021.

His two wins last season came against Robert Bautista Agut of Spain and Alex de Minaur of Australia, both in straight sets.

The World No. 4 is coming off a pretty good 2021 season, and a 55-19 record is a reflection of that. He captured two titles last season, one in Lyon and the other in Monte Carlo, which was his first Masters 1000 crown.

The 23-year-old also reached a maiden Grand Slam final at Roland Garros last year, falling agonisingly short of the title, as he went down to Novak Djokovic in five.

A seven time champion and 10-time runner-up on the Tour, Tsitsipas has a splendid record on both hard and clay courts, winning four titles on the former and three on the latter.

Last season, Tsitsipas had a 32-13 record on hard courts, reaching just one final in Acapulco, which he lost to Alexander Zverev. In contrast, he featured in four finals on clay, winning two and finishing runner-up in Barcelona and Roland Garros.

Carrying the hopes of Greece on his shoulders, Tsitsipas will be expected to inspire his team to touch new heights.

Hurkacz on a Four-Match Losing Streak

He broke into the top 10 in 2021 and has done consistently well to remain in the top 10. Hurkacz is on a four-match losing streak though and will be desperate to end the skid.

A three-time champion on the Tour last season, Hurkacz lost to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Paris Masters and then lost all three of his matches at the season-ending ATP Finals.

The World No. 9 is however 3-0 at the ATP Cup, winning all his singles matches in 2020. But despite his perfect record Poland didn’t make it to the knockout stages. They didn’t feature in the 2021 season.

Hurkacz also has a perfect record in finals, having won all four of his career finals so far, three of which came last year, which included a Masters 1000 title in Miami along with titles at Delray Beach and Metz. Interestingly, all four of his career titles have come on hard courts, a surface on which he thrives and had a 30-16 record last season.

The Polish player, who defeated Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer on his way to a maiden major semifinal at Wimbledon last year, will be hoping to keep his perfect record at the ATP Cup intact with a win Saturday.

Tsitsipas v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas’ dominance of this rivalry makes him the favourite in Saturday’s match. Expect another cracking three-setter with the Greek taking the contest.
