2021 was a decent year for the 30-year-old Pablo Carreno Busta, who concluded the season with a record of 38-18 and two singles titles. He ended a two-year drought in the Andalucia Open, beating Jaume Munar in the final.
A couple of months later, he won the Hamburg Open in July and eventually moved on to reach the final of the Moselle Open.
He managed to retain his spot in the top 20, which is certainly a positive sign. At the same time, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist (a feat he achieved after beating Novak Djokovic in three sets) peaked at World No. 11 in 2021 and was quite close to breaking into the top 10 once again.
But after a bleak few weeks in the final leg of the season, the Spaniard had to settle for the #20 spot in the ATP rankings. That said, he has the skillset needed to win big and may very well leave his mark on the tour this year.

Tabilo, in for a Challenging Affair
24-year-old Alejandro Tabilo spent the bulk of his season on the Challenger and ITF circuits in 2021. He reached a couple of finals there and that was it.
On the ATP Tour, his best run came at the Miami Open, Indian Wells, Open, and Chile Open where he reached the early rounds after clearing the qualifiers. It seems like the #139-ranked Tabilo is biding his time and gaining some much-needed experience before competing in more big events.
By the looks of it, Tabilo will have a tough time in beating his Spanish adversary but this early in the season, anything can happen.
Busta v Tabilo Prediction and Tip
Busta will start as the odds-on favourite but Tabilo is young and hungry for wins. It is often seen that the big guns can succumb to the rising stars, especially when looking to gain traction early in the year.
