Hubert Hurkacz v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
In their one and only meeting on the ATP Tour, Hurkacz emerged as the winner. The duo met in the 2021 Canada Masters where the Pole won 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-4.

After enjoying a career-defining season in 2021, Hubert Hurkacz kickstarted the 2022 proceedings with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 win over Aristotelis Thanos of Greece.
The Pole was originally slated to play Stefanos Tsitsipas but the latter withdrew due to an elbow injury. Hurkacz made easy work of the 1000+ ranked Thanos.
Hurkacz cracked the top 10 last season to end the year as World No. 9 on the back of three singles titles – the Miami Open, Delray Beach Open, and Moselle Open. His overall win-loss tally was 36-23 and he even managed to qualify for the year-end ATP Finals.
His other highlights include a semifinal run in the Wimbledon and Paris Masters and quarterfinal appearances in the Canadian Open and Indian Wells. Hurkacz has pretty much established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
With the tricky Greece fixture out of the way in the ATP Cup, his form will be instrumental in taking Poland through to the next couple of bouts. The last time he featured in the competition, he won all of his robin round matches against the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Borna Coric, and Dominic Thiem.

Basilashvili, in Need of a Win
Nikoloz Basilashvili didn’t have that great of a start to the 2022 season. He fell to Schwartzman 1-6, 2-6, thus contributing to Argentina’s 3-0 rout of Georgia in Group D.
He ended the previous season as World No. 22 with 33-27, which is certainly an impressive feat by all means. In terms of trophies, he picked up two titles – Qatar Open and Bavarian Championships. However, he was truly impressive at Indian Wells where he reached the final but lost to Cameron Norrie.
Nonetheless, Basilashvili moved past the likes of Tsitsipas, Khachanov, and Fritz to rediscover his form. That said, it may be fair to say that the 29-year-old lacks consistency.

Hurkacz will start as the odds on favourite but Basilashvili is a talented player capable of surprises. When in the peak of his form, he can dismantle the big guns as he did in 2021. Expect an entertaining game of tennis that can likely go three sets.
