Viktorija Golubic v Lauren Davis Head to Head

Golubic holds a 2-1 lead over Davis, last beating her in the 2021 WTA Monterrey in straight sets.

Golubic, Hoping for another Stunning Year

Words do not do justice to the spectacular year Viktorija Golubic enjoyed in 2021. With a win-loss tally of 48-22, she climbed some 90 odd places in the rankings, from #137 to reach her career-best ranking of World No. 43.

Although the Tokyo Olympics doubles silver medalist lacks big titles, her relentless pursuit on the tour and plenty of tennis have primed her well for the upcoming season.

Golubic was the runner-up in the Lyon Open and Monterrey Open (a feat she achieved as a qualifier) and later reached the quarterfinal in Eastbourne International and Wimbledon. While the 29-year-old lost her groove in the US Open swing, she did well to finish the year in the top 50.

She also helped Switzerland reach the final of the Billie Jean King Cup.

Davis, Seeking a Good Season

If we are to look at Lauren Davis’s form over the last few seasons, we’d notice a gradual drop in her play. Her singles ranking has gone down consistently from the 60s to 70s and now, in the 80s.

The current World No. 89 ended the 2021 spell with a win-loss tally of 20-21, thus ending her pursuit to win her first singles title since 2017 January.

Among the highlights of her season were a couple of semifinal runs in the Nottingham Open and WTA Charleston. As a qualifier, Davis also reached the quarterfinal in WTA Guadalajara but that run was preceded by a three-match losing streak in the Australian Open swing.

Golubic v Davis Prediction and Tip

There is no denying that Golubic will start this match as the favourite. She has momentum and experience on her side while her American adversary continues to battle form woes.
