John Isner v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
There have been four previous matches played between these two players and Isner has won every single time.

It took Isner all of an hour and six minutes to register an opening win in USA’s first match against Canada. Isner was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over last-minute entrant Brayden Schnur.
In a match where Isner faced just one break-point – and he saved it easily too – the American slammed 10 aces to his opponent’s mere one and won a whopping 80% of his first-serve points to claim the encounter. In turn he broke Schnur four times, twice in both sets to cruise to that victory.
Isner is coming off a season in which he improved upon his performances from the previous one – a 23-13 win-loss record to 12-11 in 2020.
That had also included a title win in Atlanta and he will now look to use that and his opening showing here as a springboard for a slightly sterner test in this second encounter.

Struff Crushed by Evans
After a lacklustre previous season, Struff would have expected to start off on a better note than he eventually did in 2022.
The German wasn’t quite the favourite going up against Dan Evans of Great Britain, who had come into the season with some decent showing last year but would have expected a better result than a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing.
The match lasted a mere hour and nine minutes, where Struff failed to win a single break-point. In turn, he had to face 11 of them and was broken four times – twice in each of the two sets.
What Struff would for is a showing reminiscent of what had happened at the ATP Cup last season where the German had won two of his three matches. Wins over Milos Raonic and Dusan Lajovic and a fighting defeat to Andrey Rublev had raised hopes of something spectacular from him in the season to follow.
Unfortunately for him that hadn’t quite transpired the way he would have liked. Can he turn things around here?
