Matteo Berrettini v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

Berrettini and Humbert have been involved in two career head-to-head meetings and are tied at two wins each. They last played each other in the second round of ten US Open, with the Italian coming through in straight sets.

Berrettini Hoping to Bounce Back

While his last season came to nightmarish end after he conceded his opening round-robin at home with an injury, he did finish on the Grand Slam podium, albeit the one for the runner-up, at the Wimbledon Championships.

He also finished on the champion’s podium at the Queen’s Club Championships and the Serbian Open while also putting himself in the reckoning for titles and finishing in the business-end of a volley events.

Leading the line for Italy at the ongoing ATP Cup, Berrettini slipped up in his opening group-stage tie against fleet-footed Australian Alex de Minaur. After seeing his opponent take the opening set by a comfortable margin, the Italian put up a fight up in the second but it wasn’t enough to tip the eventual outcome in his favor as de Minaur prevailed in straight sets.

Up against an in-form Ugo Humbert in in his next on Tuesday, the big-hitting Italian would have to bring his A-game to the turf  if he is to come out on the right end of the result against the Frenchman.

Humbert sent his home supporters into raptures after springing a stunning upset on reigning US Open champion and current World No.2 Daniil Medvedev. However, his team couldn’t press on with the advantage as fellow Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech lost his tie against Roman Safiullin.

Humbert will be high on confidence and belief after the Medvedev win and  Berrettini will be wary not to take things lightly against him.

Humbert Looks to Build On Medvedev Win

Coming off an injury-enforced lay-off, Humbert engineered the first upset of the new season after upending Medvedev, the reigning the Wimbledon runner-up, in straight sets..

A feisty competitor on the court and a practiced piano player off it, Humbert ran up a comfortable lead in the opening set and kept his nose in front to win by a comfortable margin.

While he did face stubborn resistance from the Russian in the second set, the Frenchman, playing at the level that saw him lift his maiden Tour title at Halle last year, kept up his momentum to triumph in straight sets.

Up against Wimbledon runner-up Berrettini  in his next, the Frenchman would look to repeat the template that took him to one his biggest career wins.

However, with Berrettini smarting from his opening group-stage defeat to de Minaur and desperate to bounce back, the Frenchman will know that any slip-up in momentum could well be the difference between winning and losing the contest.

Berrettini v Humbert Prediction and Tip

With both players tied 1-1 in head-to-head battles, neither Berrettini nor Humbert will start as favorite going into this clash. However, the Italian’s superior ranking will put him at slight advantage over the Frenchman.
