Time To Deliver For Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova went off the grid in the past couple of years. When she burst onto the scene by winning her maiden WTA title as a 17-year-old in Bogota, many expected her to take the next step in her evolution. But instead, things have gone awry for the talented young American.

Anisimova’s 2021 season was just a brutal slice of bad luck. She was forced to miss tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Australian Open, and  Doha. The former two as a result of a positive coronavirus test, while the latter is due to an ankle injury.

Those complications meant that Anisimova had to wait until early March to kick off her season proper despite signing up for an ITF event in Orlando beforehand.

Anisimova showed glimpses of her true potential despite the difficulties of an underwhelming season. This is a player who peaked at a career-high ranking of No. 21 not so long ago but now is in a race to rediscover the form that took her there.

Anisimova will have a bite of the Australian cherry this time. And given her absence in last year’s tournaments Down Under, she could be a dangerous floater in the draw.

Van Uytvanck, A Perennial Danger On Hard Courts

Alison Van Uytvanck posted a 13-3 record on indoor hard courts last season, capturing titles at the newly-minted Astana Open and Limoges. Van Uytvanck also won a title on the ITF circuit during the grass-court season – the Nottingham W100.

Van Uytvanck’s story should inspire a few of her contemporaries, not least Amanda Anisimova. The ginger-haired Belgian underwent a minor procedure on her right knee last February, and endured a torrid winless run of five matches on her return.

But the manner in which she turned her season around was exemplary. Those aforementioned title wins came at fluctuating periods during the year, which explains the 27-year-old’s biggest problem – consistency.

Will the Belgian serve a stunner on her return to court – about two weeks from her last competitive tennis match?

Anisimova v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

Van Uytvanck thrives on indoor hard courts due to her flat-hitting groundstrokes. Outdoors, Anisimova should have the upper hand. We are backing the American to prove her mettle in this match.
