Daria Kasatkina v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

The pair have met twice before. Their first meeting was in the Moscow semi-final in 2015, and their second encounter at the Baltic Open three years later. Kasatkina won in straight sets on both occasions, dropping just two games in the second match.

Kasatkina was top ten player in 2018, although her ranking has drifted since then.

2021 though, saw her achieve singles success, beginning in Australia, where she won the post Australian Open tournament, the Phillip Island Trophy, and then, next month, won on home soil in St. Petersburg.

She then finished runner-up ion grass in Birmingham, and also lost in the final of the Silicon Valley Classic to Danielle Collins.

Melbourne has not been a happy hunting ground for her over the years. She has never been further than the second round of the Australian Open here, a record she will be \hoping to improve on in the coming weeks.

Kalinskaya’s Best Results in 2021 in Doubles

Kalinskaya has not had the career, to date, of her compatriot, with her singles’ successes confined to the ITF tour, where she has won seven tournaments,

However, she ahs mad something of  a name for herself as s doubles specialist, appearing in four senior finals, including two in 2021.

With regular partner Viktoria Kuzmova she finished runner-up at the Yarra Valley Classic, here in Melbourne, and then with Tereza Mihailkova, won the Slovenian Open in September.

In the qualifying competition, she began with a  good straight sets victory over the experienced American, Christina McHale.

And that earned her a meting with the Romanian world number 138, Irina Maria Bara.

Their first set was scrappy, with both women struggling to hold serve, until Kalinskaya began to exert control, and eventually established the advantage.

The second set was more one sided, however, a d nth Russian dropped just two games in clinching it.

Kasatkina has won both their two matches relatively easily, and there is little evidence to suggest that the result will be anything different this time.
