Veronika Kudermetova v Madison Brengle Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, which also took place in Australia in Hobart, Brengle was the winner. The American won that qualifying encounter in 2018 with 6-3, 6-4.

Kudermetova Outlasts Kuzmova

Veronika Kudermetova had to work hard for her opening-round victory in Melbourne. Facing Viktoria Kuzmova, she overcame the Slovak in straight sets after fighting for an hour and 58 minutes with 7-6(4), 7-6(6).

The Russian enjoyed a good service game, nonetheless, with 10 aces and 71.4% of the points on her first serve. On the whole, she was the superior player as she now looks to make more waves in the competition.

Kudermetova ended the 2021 season as World No. 31, peaking at the #28th spot in April. Her highlights include the runner-up feat in Abu Dhabi and later, her maiden singles title at the Charleston Open. As a doubles player, she is ranked much higher – courtesy of her three final appearances at Istanbul, Wimbledon, and Indian Wells.

Barring a few events on the WTA singles circuit, the 24-year-old was beaten in the early round in most of the competitions. That said, she has the temperament to go big on the tour.

Brengle Survives Hibino

Madison Brengle also found herself in a marathon match of sorts – this one against the Japanese Nao Hibino. Lasting for an hour and 44 minutes, Brengle prevailed ultimately with 7-6(3), 7-6(4) – winning an impressive 74% of the points on her first service.

The 31-year-old had a rather bleak season last year, as she juggled ITF, Challenger, and WTA events. With a tally of 36-25, Brengle reached a couple of finals on the ITF circuit. At the end of the season, she also won the Midland Classic Challenger – a feat that helped her end the year as World No. 58.

Brengle certainly has quite a bit of experience on her side and can most likely make things difficult for Kudermetova. Over the course of her career, she has played several top 10 players and that alone should give her some edge against her Russian adversary.

Kudermetova v Brengle Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova will start as the odds-on favourite but Brengle is more than capable of toppling the third seed. Both players have shown a great deal of endurance in the opening matches, which means we are in for an epic affair. This may very well go to three sets.
