Former top ten and crowd favorite globally, Frenchman Gael Monfils had a difficult late 2020- early 2021 season. His poor run of form saw him break into tears asking for mercy after his first round loss at the Australian Open in 2021, which marked six consecutive opening round losses for the Frenchman.
The season definitely got better for Monfils especially on the American hard courts and European indoor courts thereafter, notably making the final four at Moselle and the finals in Sofia.
2022 seems to have got off to a better start for the Frenchman with two consecutive straight set wins here in Adelaide after a first round bye. Monfils dropped three games in his opener against Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo and then five games against American Tommy Paul to make the final four.

Kokkinakis Makes Semis After Five Years
25-year-old Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis has been on the tour for most of the last decade and a career which began early with a lot of promise has been largely marred by injuries and lay-offs.
Currently ranked outside the top 150 in the world, Kokkinakis returned to the tour hoping to get a good start to the season.
The Aussie started the week in Adelaide with a confidence boosting straight sets win against his compatriot from Queensland John Milman in straight sets. A spirited display by the Aussie followed as he upset fourth seed American Frances Tiafoe in a classic three-setter setting up a final eight spot against upcoming Swede Mikail Ymer.
Another back and forth contest followed, with the Aussie prevailing again in three sets and qualifying for the semi-finals of an ATP tournament for the first time in 5 years.
Monfils v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip
Two endearing and entertaining personalities, both with plenty of crowd following will make for an entertaining semi-final. Both players can be spectacular and inconsistent at the same time.
