Simona Halep v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

Halep holds a 2-0 lead over Kudermetova, with both those wins coming in 2021 on hard courts. The first one came in the Australian Open while the second came in the Kremlin Cup – all in straight sets.

Halep, Back to her Former Self

Simona Halep has had a remarkable week in Melbourne, having made it to her second WTA final in the last three competitions on the tour.

Her last such appearance was in October at her home tournament of Transylvania Open where she lost to Anett Kontaveit in the final. After that, she reached the semis in Linz where she withdrew from her bout against Jacqueline Cristian.

Now in 2022, the Romanian has delivered another great run and is well on her way to reaching the top 10 once again.

Her most recent victim was the 19-year-old Qinwen Zheng, whom the current World No. 20 dispatched with 6-3, 6-2. In fact, except for her bout against Viktorija Golubic (which went into three sets), Halep navigated her remained of the fixtures with absolute ease in straight sets.

The 30-year-old, backed by a formidable legacy and multiple Grand Slam finals, is now a heavy favourite to lift the crown in Melbourne Summer Set 1.

Kudermetova Benefits from Osaka’s Withdrawal

Veronika Kudermetova was slated to take on the former world number one Naomi Osaka in the semifinal. However, the Japanese prodigy withdrew from the match, citing health concerns after back to back intense matches in Melbourne.

As a result, the 24-year-old Russian is now through to the final without stepping on the court – thus benefiting from an extra day of rest.

Kudermetova is a formidable doubles player and is hoping to leave a mark on the singles circuit too. Last year, she reached the final of two WTA 500 events in Abu Dhabi and Charleston, winning the title in the latter.

The number three seed has since spent her time in attempts to emulate those results, but to little avail – at least until now.

Over the last week, the #31-ranked player has played some superb tennis to defeat Viktoria Kuzmova, Madison Brengle, and Anastasia Potapova. However, the game against Halep is undoubtedly the toughest one yet.

Halep v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

Halep will start the match as the heavy favourite but Kudermetova, bubbling with confidence following her recent performance, will put up a good fight. Ultimately, the Romanian should come out on the top.

Tip: Halep to win AND over 19.5 games in the match: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
