Alexander Bublik v Aleksandar Vukic Head to Head

24-year-old Bublik will meet the World No. 156 Vukic for the first time on Monday at the Adelaide International 2.

Bublik Opens Up 2022 Season

With a host of ATP players electing to play the first week of regular tennis, Alexander Bublik was not among them. The flamboyant 24-year-old was scheduled to play the Melbourne Summer Set last week but decided to withdraw from the event.

Bublik finished his 2021 season so late as a result of representing Kazakhstan at the Davis Cup Finals last November. Currently, he sits at 36th in the world rankings, two spots shy from his career-high ranking. There is the likelihood that he could be seeded at this year’s Australian Open.

Bublik reached two ATP finals last year, one at the very beginning of the season in Antalya. He won 35 matches at tour level – his personal best and is now Kazakhstan’s undisputed No. 1 men’s player.

The Russian-born Bublik’s record Down Under in recent years makes for grim reading. He did a commendable job of reaching the second round of the Happy Slam as a 19-year-old qualifier in 2017, but he has only ever managed one more main draw win at the tournament.

His preparation at the warm-up tournaments has failed to inspire the 24-year-old for a big fortnight. But now that he is fully refreshed and raring to go, this could be his year to impress.

Vukic Gets Wild Card Spot

Aleksandar Vukic fits the mold of a late bloomer. Currently sitting at a career-high ranking of World No. 156, Vukic has exploded into life on the ATP Challenger Tour at the of 25.

Vukic’s breakthrough year on the ATP’s second-tier level saw him reach two finals towards the end of November. He advanced to the championship match in Charlottesville and Champaign and remarkably lost both times to Stefan Kozlov.

Those results did not dampen his mood, instead, his spirits have been lifted considerably. His game is still a work-in-progress. This week, he is one of three Australian wild card entrants at the Adelaide International 2.

Vukic will also be in the main draw of the Australian Open for the second year running after the wild cards were announced by the tournament organizers on Saturday. Last year he pushed former Top 10 player Karen Khachanov to four sets – a result that went a long way to unearth his talent and potential.

Bublik v Vukic Prediction and Tip

Bublik’s absence from last week’s tournaments was that he needed a little bit of rest time after winding up his season so late. Vukic, on the other hand, suffered defeat at the hands of Steve Johnson in what looked like a winnable match on paper. Taking a price on the Australian could be a smart choice, knowing that Bublik is a momentum sort of player. But we are going with the games market.
