Danielle Collins v Caroline Dolehide Head to Head
The pair have played each other three times before, on the ITF tour. Each winning a match in 2016, whilst Collins was victorious in their meeting a year later.

When Collins arrived to play the Australian Olen in 2019, she had never won a singles match at a major event. However, she defied all expectations by reaching the semi-finals, on the way causing a major upset by defeating Angelique Kerber, who was the number two seed that year.
The American followed that up by reaching the last eight in Paris the following year.
However, 2021 was really her breakthrough year on the WTA tour. She won her first senior title in Palermo in July, and the following month, lifted the Silicon Valley Classic tournament, having beaten Daria Kasatkina in the final.
Although she has not played a competitive match since reaching the semi-finals in Linz last November, she will be confident of making a strong start to her season.

Dolehide Best Known for Doubles
Dolehide has primarily made a name for herself in doubles. In 2019 she was a semi-finalist at her home Grand Slam in New York and then reached the last eight in Melbourne the following year.
In 2021 she reached another Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon, and also appeared in three WTA finals with three different partners, winning in Monterrey, and finishing runner-up in Nottingham and Chicago.
Singles-wise she plays mainly on the junior tours, although she has appeared in the main draw of the US Open three times, without ever winning a match there, her only win in a major coming in 2018 when she got to the second round of the French Open.
This is the first time she has qualified for the singles at the Australian Open, but made relatively serene progress through the qualifying competition, beating first Yulia Hatouka of Belarus, then Xiaodi You of China and finally Julia Grabher of Austria, without dropping a set.
Collins v Dolehide Prediction and Tip
On paper, this would appear to be a complete mis-match with more than 250 places separating them in the world rankings. Stranger things have happened, but it would be a major shock if this resulted in anything but an easy victory for Collins.
