Grigor Dimitrov v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

28th-ranked Dimitrov will play World No. 143 Jiri Lehecka for the first time.

Dimitrov Lands In Tough Section

The Australian Open is Grigor Dimitrov’s most productive Grand Slam. He has made three quarterfinal appearances before, and in 2017 came within a set of defeating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.

Dimitrov is projected to lock horns with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round and the draw has not been kind either should he manage to upend the Greek. The likes of Bautista Agut and Casper Ruud could be lurking before he can contemplate headlining in another semifinal.

So far in 2022, Dimitrov has played one warm-up tournament –  the Melbourne Summer Set 1. He reached the last four after securing two solid wins over Facundo Bagnis and Botic van de Zandschulp. However, he had a rough time combating the big serve of Maxime Cressy who was in red-hot that week.

Dimitrov fell in two tight sets to Cressy and paid a hefty price for his failure to break serve. The Bulgarian will be seeded at number 28 at the year’s first Major and has never lost a first-round here since 2013.

Lehecka Beats Popko For Main Draw Berth

Jiri Lehecka secured his place in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time, and he will be joined by compatriot and good friend Tomas Machac as the pair of them notched two big wins in the final round of qualifying.

Lehecka’s win over Dimitry Popko which came earlier in the humid final day of qualifying appeared unlikely at one point. He trailed the Kazakh by a set before he mounted a spirited fightback to win in three.

Lehecka is one of the most promising crops of youngsters to come from the Czech Republic, which has been crying out for a successor to Tomas Berdych – the former top tenner.

The 20-year-old is looking to follow up a breakthrough year on the ATP Challenger circuit with tour-level success. He won four titles last season, with two of those coming at the Challenger level. He has also soared on the ATP rankings, breaking the world’s top 150 for the first time.

Dimitrov v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

This could get trickier than what the odds suggest. Lehecka packs a pacey first serve and is quick around the baseline. We reckon the youngster is worth backing to take a set off the inconsistent Bulgarian.

Tip: Dimitrov to win AND both players to win a set: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
