Sara Sorribes Tormo v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head

Sorribes Tormo went 1-0 up with a straight-set victory at the 2018 Wimbledon before Kostyuk levelled the scoreline last season in Abu Dhabi after coming back from losing the opening set 6-0.

After having made a slow start to the season, Sorribes Tormo got off to a reasonably quick start to this year’s Australian Open with an easy win in her first round match.
Needing an hour and a half, Sorribes Tormo tore past Belgian veteran Kirsten Flipkens to seal her second round berth.
The Spaniard won 6-4, 6-1 and despite losing her serve twice she was always in control of the encounter. That said, she would have to do a lot better in this round of 64 encounter, where she might not be aided by her opponent the manner in which she was in her opener – there were 36 unforced errors from Flipkens in this one.
Earlier, Sorribes Tormo had crashed out of the Melbourne Summer Set in the second round, losing to the unfancied Kamila Rakhimova.

Kostyuk Made to Work by 114th-Ranked
19-year-old Diane Parry’s career-best ranking is 113th on the WTA charts but that didn’t stop her from making things slightly tricky for Kostyuk in the second set of their encounter.
Kostyuk looked to be running away with the match when she slammed past Parry in just 37 minutes in the opening set – breaking her opponent three times in the process – but then squandered a 3-1 lead in the second.
Parry came back with a break and then pushed the set into a tie-breaker but that was about where her fight ended. The 66th-ranked Kostyuk ran away with the tie-breaker as she took a 5-1 lead then completed a 6-1, 7-6 (2) win.
Can she now get past her higher-ranked opponent in this second round encounter to add to her already-career-best Australian Open showing?
