Wang won their only previous meetings in 2018.

Krejcikova Eases Past Petkovic

Barbora Krejcikova is off to a terrific start at the Australian Open. The World No. 4 needed just 67 minutes to win her opener against Germany’s Andrea Petkovic on Monday.

The match, which began with three consecutive breaks of serve, quickly turned into an exhibition from the 26-year-old Czech, who breezed past then German for a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Such was her dominance in the second set that she dropped just three points on her serve and won 65% (15 of 23) return points.

In all, the 2021 French Open champion struck 28 winners to Petkovic’s 12 and made five fewer unforced errors than her opponent’s 19.

Having never gone past the second round of the Australian Open in her past two appearances, Krejcikova, who blossomed in a 44-18 season last year, is one of the top contenders this year and will be looking to go much deeper into the tournament.

She has already had a solid start to the season, having reached the final in Sydney (her fifth final since March last year). She however missed out on a fourth career title after going down to Paula Badosa in three.

Wang Sends Kuzmova Packing

World No. 139 Xiyu Wang dispatched Slovakian qualifier Viktória Kužmová in the first round on Monday.

The 20-year-old Chinese player, who received a wild card for the tournament, needed an hour and 20 minutes to win 7-5, 6-3.

Broken early, Wang conceded a 0-3 lead in the first set, but she found her footing soon, to comeback in the set with two breaks of serve. Wang dominated the second with three breaks of serve, while her opponent could get just one break in the set.

The win marked Wang’s first at a Grand Slam event and it comes on her Australian Open debut. The 2018 U.S. Open girl’s singles champion has featured once each at the U.S. Open and the French Open but never advanced to the second round.

Krejcikova v Wang Prediction and Tip
