Iga Swiatek v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 French Open where, in the second round, Swiatek raced off to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Swiatek Routs Dart in Opener

After having made it to the semifinal last week in Adelaide, with wins over Leylah Fernandez and Victoria Azarenka, Swiatek began her Australian Open campaign with an easy victory.

In a match lasting just an hour and 12 minutes, Swiatek did drop her serve early in the first set but once she got her bearings right there was no looking back. In fact, from being 1-3 down in the opening set, Swiatek won 11 games in a row to wrap up the encounter breaking Dart five times in a row.

Swiatek dropped six points on both, her first and second serve all match, and won six of the eight first serve points on her opponent’s serve to make this a one-sided encounter in the end.

The challenge could get slightly starker for Swiatek come round two but she has shown enough early this season to convey she could be quick in her path to round three.

Peterson Makes Short Work of Saville

She didn’t have the most difficult of an opponent to kick-start her campaign and the in-form Peterson took full control of the encounter from the get-go.

The Swede, who was once 43rd on the WTA charts, needed an hour and 22 minutes to get past Daria Saville, winning 6-2, 6-3.

An early couple of breaks for Peterson helped her take a 4-0 lead before she lost her serve but that wasn’t enough to undo the damage she had already done on her opponent.

Another break of serve in the fourth game of the second was followed by an exchange of breaks leading to Peterson completing the victory.

What Peterson will now need to do is pick things up from her opening round win at the Adelaide International where she had defeated Aryna Sabalenka. Can she use that confidence to trouble Swiatek?

Swiatek v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Swiatek should have this wrapped up quickly enough as she looks to march on into the second week in a bid to add another Grand Slam to her kitty.

Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
