Emma Raducanu v Danka Kovinic Head to Head

This will be the first match between Raducanu and Kovinic.

Raducanu Comes Through in See-Saw Battle

She might have won the US Open title last year but since that victory, Raducanu’s form had slipped away with the Brit winning just two of the five matches she played since.

And when she managed to win just one game in her opening round defeat to Elena Rybkina in Sydney, Raducanu’s confidence would have suffered a great deal.

Not surprising then when the British player started her match against Sloane Stephens as the second favourite, odds of 11/10 for her win. Which is why, a win over Stephens, albeit in three sets, would have filled Raducanu with some confidence coming into the rest of this tournament and the season.

Raducanu took an hour and 46 minutes to complete a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 win over Stephens, marking his second round berth at a tournament she has never played before this. Can she now double her victory tally in Melbourne?

Kovinic Finally Wins a Match

Coming into her opening round match against Su Jeong Jang, Kovinic knew she was up against it despite being ranked more than 120 places ahead of her opponent.

And that was to do with the kind of form she had shown in the lead-up to this encounter with Kovinic having not won a main draw match since October of last year.

Fortunately for Kovinic, she managed to come through in three sets to seal the deal – winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 – in a match that lasted over three hours. A total of eight breaks of serves came in the encounter, four to each and it was Kovinic’s 38 winners to her opponent’s 26 that helped her come through.

What Kovinic would now hope for is to exploit the kind of chinks she might have spotted in her opponent’s armour since her US Open triumph but the big question is whether she has the game herself to do that.

Raducanu v Kovinic Prediction and Tip

Raducanu is a heavy favourite here at 1/5 but expect some sort of a fight from Kovinic. The games market might be a good one to look at.
