Schwartzman kicked off his 2022 Australian Open campaign with a straight-set 6-3 6-4 7-5 victory over Krajinovic to advance to round 2. The Argentine hit 3 aces, winning 67% of first serve points and saving 60% of break point opportunities. Schwartzman was able to hit 27 winners and win 10/18 points at the net.
The 13th seed was helped along the way by his opponent who hit 53 unforced errors compared to just 20 winners. Nonetheless, Schwartzman won 49% of return points and conjured up 17 break point opportunities to prove too much for his opponent.
Prior to this, the 29-year-old competed in the ATP cup, where he recorded a straight sets 6-1 6-2 victory over Basilashvili and an impressive 3-set 6-7(5) 6-4 6-3 victory over Tsitsipas. Schwartzman also competed against Hurkacz but lost 6-1 6-4.
Schwartzman is the strong favourite to advance to round 3, where he would face either Machac or Cressy.

O’Connell Records Impressive Win Over Gaston
O’Connell won many fans as he played in front of his home crowd in his opener, successfully defeating Gaston 7-6(4) 6-0 4-6 6-1 in 2-hours 38-minutes.
The Australian was able to land 69% of first serves and win 71% of points behind this delivery. O’Connell hit 43 winners compared to 38 unforced errors, presenting a positive ratio. He also managed to win 26 points at the net.
After managing to win 41% of return games, the 27-year-old proved too much for his French opponent and set up a tie with the 13th seed.
Before this, O’Connell kicked off his 2022 season in Melbourne, narrowly losing out to Thompson 1-6 7-5 6-4. The Australian then travelled to Sydney, where he successfully navigated his way through qualifying defeating Seppi and Travaglia without dropping a set.
His opener in the main draw saw him lose another hard fought contest, losing out to Baez 6-2 1-6 7-6(4) in a 2 hour+ battle.
